API 5500 is based on the original API 550 developed by Saul Walker. Originally, the design was developed for a desk, which required an unbalanced input and where the limited space set limits to the functionality. The 5500 goes beyond the original limitations and now has balanced input, integrated noise-free power supply and extended features that make it useful for mastering.
