API 505-DI Direct Input Module – 500 Series
The API 505-DI is a premium-quality 500 Series direct input module, purpose-built for instruments such as electric guitar, bass, or keyboard. Designed to deliver pristine audio and tonal flexibility, the 505-DI brings API’s signature analog warmth, clarity, and punch to your direct recordings — all in a compact format ideal for modern studio setups.
With a wide-range gain control offering up to 55 dB, the 505-DI can accurately bring instrument-level signals up to a clean, professional +4 dBu output level. The unique TONE control helps reduce low-frequency muddiness, while the BRIGHT switch adds clarity and presence to high frequencies — making this unit capable of delivering mix-ready tones without the need for external EQ during tracking.
The front panel features a Hi-Z instrument input, a THRU output for simultaneous amp routing, and a switchable input load (100K / 400K) for optimal impedance matching with different instruments. Visual monitoring is handled by a 10-segment LED VU meter and a peak output LED to ensure precise level control. A built-in 20 dB pad accommodates hot signals from active pickups or high-output sources.
Internally, the API 505-DI features the classic fully discrete circuit design and is powered by the renowned API 2520 and 2510 op amps, delivering the legendary API sound with maximum transparency and reliability.
