The M81 is the second model in the TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik dynamic microphone series.
Designed with the goal of developing a microphone that was not only a complement to the M80, TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik’s first dynamic offering, but also stands out in a universe full of dynamic microphone options.
When the M80 was first launched in 2008, it quickly became a favorite in both live and studio environments. Its clarity and detailed and flexible usability for a multitude of tasks have made it the most popular microphone in the TELEFUNKEN product line.
The TELEFUNKEN M81 has some of the same characteristics, but unlike the M81, its top-end is pulled back a bit, which gives a smoother frequency curve and sound. It provides a mic with a ton of body and clarity and makes it a great tool for taming bright vocals, guitar and percussion, horns and sources that might sound tinny.
The TELEFUNKEN M81 fits perfectly on electric guitars, percussion, rack and floor toms, and brass instruments. The microphone’s wide range of uses and rugged reliability make it the workhorse.
The M81 has the same flint gray finish and chrome head grill as the RFT AR-51, so the M81 is easy to recognize.
