Chandler TG1 Limiter/Compressor

The TG-1 is a one-for-one reproduction of the compressor that was mounted in the legendary EMI TG 12345 mixer that for many years shaped the sound from the equally legendary Abbey Road studio. The TG-1 is the master compressor from this desk, built after what was called the EMI TG12413 Limiter. The story is that it was designed and built at the request of EMI’s technicians, they wanted a compressor that should sound like the Fairchild 660/667. The TG-1, however, came to sound very different and very much the same, because its very own musical “tone” hit right in the heart of everyone who used it, and it came to characterize the recordings in the studio. The TG mixer was exclusively made by and for EMI, and only studios owned by EMI had access to install the mixer and the modules that belonged to it. The TG-1 is a stereo/dual mono master compressor that, with its very special sound and signature, is perfect for adding “nerve” to modern productions. If you listen to it, you’ll know why the sound of the EMI desk was loved! In fact, most of us have heard it many times, on e.g. The Beatles’ “Abbey Road” and Pink Floyd’s “dark side of the moon”…..
