The Royer 121 was launched back in 1998 and is now a studio standard in ribbon microphones. It is a favorite for recording electric guitar and wind instruments, but its unique sound is also widely used for recording vocals and acoustic guitar. The award-winning R-121 is Royer’s flagship microphone; the world’s first radically re-engineered ribbon microphone, which reintroduced ribbon microphones to studios around the world.
Royer removed all the cumbersomeness and fragility that characterized “classic” ribbon microphones, and went in a completely new direction. The R-121 provides all the warm and natural sound, as characterized by ribbon microphones, but in a compact, lightweight, high-output that was previously unheard of with a ribbon microphone. In its almost 20 years on the market, thousands of R-121 have been sold worldwide, and is well established as a standard for tracking electric guitar and brass.
